Auto & Vehicles

What are the minimum auto insurance limits in California?

Since January 1, 2025, California requires liability limits of at least $30,000 for injury to one person, $60,000 for injuries per accident, and $15,000 for property damage, often written as 30/60/15. Many drivers choose higher limits to better protect their savings. Get an auto insurance quote.

Do California insurers use my credit score to set my auto rate?

No. California does not allow insurers to use credit scores to rate auto policies. Your driving record, the miles you drive each year, and your years of driving experience carry the most weight. Learn more about auto insurance.

What is the California Good Driver Discount?

California law requires insurers to give qualifying good drivers a rate at least 20% lower than they would otherwise charge. In general, you need at least three years of driving experience and no more than one point on your record. See if you qualify with a free auto quote.

Home & Property

Does homeowners insurance cover earthquake damage?

No. A standard homeowners policy does not cover earthquake damage. In California, your insurer must offer earthquake coverage in writing, and you can add it as a separate policy. Learn more about earthquake insurance.

Does homeowners insurance cover flooding?

Standard homeowners policies exclude flood damage. Flood coverage is sold separately through the National Flood Insurance Program or private flood carriers, and NFIP policies usually have a 30-day waiting period before coverage starts. Get a flood insurance quote.

Do I need renters insurance if my landlord has insurance?

Your landlord's policy covers the building, not your belongings or your personal liability. Renters insurance can help pay to replace your things after a covered loss and protect you if someone is hurt in your unit. Get a renters insurance quote.

How is condo insurance different from homeowners insurance?

Your HOA's master policy usually covers the building and common areas. A condo policy covers your belongings, your personal liability, and parts of your unit the HOA policy does not, such as interior improvements, depending on your HOA documents. Get a condo insurance quote.

Business & Commercial

Does my California business need workers' compensation?

Yes. California requires every employer to carry workers' compensation, even with just one employee, including part-time workers. Operating without it can lead to stop orders and penalties. Get a workers' comp quote.

What does general liability insurance cover?

General liability helps pay for claims that your business caused bodily injury or property damage to someone else, along with certain advertising injury claims. It does not cover injuries to your own employees or damage to your own property. Get a business insurance quote.

Do I need commercial auto insurance?

If your business owns vehicles, or you and your employees drive for work, a personal auto policy may limit or exclude that use. Commercial auto coverage is built for vehicles used in your business. Learn more about commercial auto insurance.

What is a commercial umbrella policy?

A commercial umbrella adds extra liability limits on top of policies such as general liability, commercial auto, and employer's liability. It can help when a large claim goes beyond those underlying limits. Learn more about business umbrella insurance.

What is term life insurance?

What is whole life insurance?
